CROM CNG DIVISION

Compressed biogas (CBG) is a renewable, clean-burning fuel that can be used to replace natural gas and crude oil. It is produced from agricultural residue, cattle dung, and municipal solid waste (MSW). CBG has similar properties to CNG and can be used in a variety of applications, including transportation, industrial, and commercial.

India is a major producer of agricultural residue and cattle dung, which makes it an ideal country for CBG production. The government of India has set a target of reducing its import of natural gas and crude oil by 10% by 2023. CBG production can help to achieve this target by providing an alternative source of fuel.

The project is to set up a compressed biogas plant to produce CBG from agricultural residue, poultry waste, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste and sewage treatment plant waste.

The biogas produced will be purified to remove hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapour and compressed as Compressed Bio Gas (CBG), which has methane (CH4) content of more than 90 %.

The CBG will be sold to the local vehicles at around Rs. 70.00 per Kg. The plant also produces organic manure in large quantity which can be sold at about Rs. 4.00 per kg in open market.

The main objective of the project is to produce CBG and organic manure from biomass and to sell them at a profit.

Here are some additional details about the project:

  • The biogas plant will be located in a rural area where there is a lot of biomass available.

  • The plant will be designed to produce 1000 m3 of CBG per day.

  • The plant will be equipped with a purification system to remove H2S and CO2 from the biogas.

  • The CBG will be compressed at 250 Bar and stored in cascades.

  • The CBG will be sold to local vehicles and industries.

  • The organic manure will be sold to farmers and gardeners.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 months and will generate a profit of Rs. 10 million per year.

CBG is a promising renewable fuel with the potential to reduce India's import dependency on natural gas and crude oil. The government of India's policies and schemes are helping to promote CBG production and use.

Here are some other benefits of CBG production:

  • It can help to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

  • It can create jobs and boost rural economies.

  • It can help to improve waste management.

Overall, CBG is a promising renewable fuel with the potential to benefit India in a number of ways.

The government of India has taken a number of steps to promote CBG production. These include:

  • Permitting the use of bio-compressed natural gas (Bio-CNG) for motor vehicles

  • Notifying Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for Bio-CNG

  • Releasing the National Policy on biofuels 2018

  • Launching the Galvanizing Organic Bio-Agro Resources Dhan (GOBAR-DHAN) scheme
